2008-9 Performing Arts Series

Mount Allison University announced its lineup for the 2008-09 Performing Arts Series recently. An exciting season of concerts and unique cultural events, the Performing Arts Series is open to everyone in the Sackville and surrounding communities.

The season begins with a return engagement by the four-man a cappella vocal group Cadence, which thrilled Sackville audiences in 2007. This concert will be held on Oct. 4.

On Oct. 18, the next series concert will be held in conjunction with a special weekend symposium sponsored by Mount Allison's Music department.

The symposium will focus on the life and works of the important French composer Olivier Messiaen, to celebrate the centenary of his birth.

The Performing Arts Series concert will feature the very moving "Quartet for the End of Time," written and premièred in a concentration camp during World War II.

The performers will be artists from the Music department at l'Université de Moncton.

Other performances that will happen as part of the series include a special Sackville Cultural Capital event featuring Mocean Dance, an exciting modern dance company from Halifax on Nov. 9. Nov. 19 brings an exciting performance of Rossini's famous opera "The Barber of Seville," presented by Jeunesses Musicales.

In the New Year, the series celebrates the return of Mount Allison alumna Sally Dibblee, soprano,who will present a recital on Jan. 17. The J.E.A. Crake Concert features Symphony Nova Scotiaon March 13.
