The Greater Moncton Homelessness Steering Committee (GMHSC) is proud to announce that its new website is up and running at www.monctonhomelessness.org.

An inter-agency committee representing agencies in Greater Moncton that work with the homeless population and those at risk of becoming homeless, the GMHSC will use its new website as a key communication tool to raise awareness about the issue in Greater Moncton.

"We're very pleased with the job that our web designers have done," says Sue Calhoun, Community Development Officer for the GMHSC.

"The lines of our web site are clean and simple, and convey a message that homelessness is an issue we should all be concerned about."

Established in 2000, the GMHSC provides leadership and coordinates communication among stakeholders and service providers to ensure the implementation of the Greater Moncton Community Plan on Homelessness.

It also works to create public awareness about issues surrounding homelessness, poverty and housing.

The web site will highlight new research on homelessness in Canada, will feature activities of the organization, and will link organizations concerned about the issue, including other homelessness committees in the province.

It also provides key statistics such as 800 people lived in homeless shelters in Greater Moncton during 2006.

In the same year, one in every six children in New Brunswick lived in poverty. A job does not guarantee escape from poverty. In 2006, 42% of poor children in New Brunswick lived in families with at least one full time worker.

The web site was designed and developed by Junction Design & Communication in Dieppe.
