Timothy and Shyla are only about 13 weeks old, but they have had a lot of adventures in their young lives.

They were born under a mini home. Their mama cat did her best to take care of them and their little sister.

When they were old enough, she took them to the place where the caregiver puts out food for the homeless cats in the park. Their little sister just never got the hang of eating adult cat food and soon she faded away and died.

Shyla somehow had her eye injured and as infection set in and the pain worsened she began to lose interest in the food too.

Timothy loved the food, but often the bigger cats got most of it, and he was always hungry.

Things were looking bleak, but then one day Timothy smelled the most amazing smell. It was so good, that it shook Shyla from her lethargy and they both went in search of the wonderful food.

Soon they found it inside two strange wire cages. Starving and not as wary as the adult cats the traps were intended for, they rushed in and were live trapped.

Ca-r-ma's foster homes were full, but because of the injury to the little girl's eye, she was taken into care. It was decided that the little boy would be neutered and put back into the colony.

He had his surgery at Elmwood Animal Hospital, and his left ear was nicked as is always done to denote a homeless cat has been altered.

When the volunteer went to pick him up, he was not able to bring himself to let the little guy go back to the colony, so he came into care with his sister.

The pair did nothing but eat for their first three days in care. The foster mom named them Timid-thee and Shy-la because they were timid and shy, but things have changed since they came in.

Shyla had to have surgery on her eye, and to avoid putting her under anesthetic twice she was spayed at the same time.

Girl cats are not usually spayed this young, but the vets at Maritime Animal Hospital brought her through the surgery. It is too soon to know if her eye will be okay.

We are hopeful, but the worst-case scenario would be that she will be blind in one eye and can have a perfectly normal life as an indoor cat.

Timothy is no longer timid. He is very gentle and playful and wants attention all the time.

If he is ignored he will tap a passing foot or ankle with his paw, but does not use his claws.

Shyla is still a little shy with strangers, but she absolutely loves to be held and will purr for hours and snuggle into your shoulder.

Both kittens are good eaters, they are litter trained and love other cats. Timothy is a brown tabby while Shyla is a grey tabby.

If you can give a real home to one or both of these wonderful babies, please call Marlah at 855-9532 or on her cell at 866-3510.

Update: Shyla saw her vet today and her eye is doing well. It doesn't open quite as wide as the other one, and the inner eyelid sometimes covers part of the inside corner, but she can definitely see and there is no sign of infection.
