(MS) - The warm-weather season is ideal for travel in the country or abroad. Some thrive on adventure and not knowing what lies around the corner. Others prefer a more mapped-out itinerary when it comes to travel plans. But where to begin?

Travel first requires determining a desired destination. With the world at your fingertips, this can be a challenging decision. Make a list of your top destination picks.

Narrow them down based on peak season, weather conditions or whether you desire a tropical, urban or vast expanse of land.

Next, it helps if you research travel requirements and local regulations if you'll be leaving the country. You'll likely need a passport, for which you should apply several months in advance of your trip to ensure it will arrive in time.

You will probably have to convert currency or acquire travel checks. It can also be handy to purchase travel insurance and check your medical insurance policy - to be on the safe side - in the event you have an emergency while away.

Stocking up on travel resources before you go can also ensure you have a safe and enjoyable trip.
